May 1 is the first day of Western Field Ornithologist’s 2024 Birdathon. The Birdathon continues to June 15, but don’t wait to get started.
If you have yet to form a team or join a team, now is the time to make plans with friends and family and get ready to start birding to raise funds to support WFO. Our fundraising goal is $30,000, which will be used for the following projects.
- Light-footed Ridgway’s Rail habitat restoration through ReWild Mission Bay, a project of the San Diego Audubon Society and the ReWild Coalition of 85 community partners
- WFO student programs, in particular, enabling scholars from Mexico to participate in and share their research at the WFO conference this October in San Diego
- WFO publications
We cannot fund these worthwhile programs without your support. Here’s how to join the 2024 WFO Birdathon. Note that the Birdathon has a new feature allowing individuals and teams to share their eBird checklists on a dedicated WFOBirdathon account.
- Even before May 1, you can register your team on our Birdathon website. Get your team together to plan your itinerary, develop a strategy, and pick your day of birding.
- Set your fundraising goal, spread the word to potential donors, and start fundraising.
- When you go birding, record your checklists on eBird or Merlin.
- Share your checklists with WFOBirdathon on eBird. Learn how to share your checklists with the WFO Birdathon account.
