Join or Renew Your Membership with WFO

Members of WFO receive four issues per year of Western Birds, regular newsletters, discounted rates for our highly acclaimed annual conferences, and the opportunity to register for WFO-sponsored tours. Life members receive extra benefits including advance registration for conferences and tours. Your membership dues go to support the only organization working to build a vibrant community among ornithologists and birders across western North America.

Membership in WFO is by volume of Western Birds which is organized by calendar year. When you join, you will receive all four issues of Western Birds in that year's volume, if the issues are available. If you would like to opt-out of receiving hard copies (and save trees), please send an email to

Membership Types

Regular (USA only): one year: $50; two years: $90; three years: $125

Family (USA address): one year: $60; two years: $110; three years: $150

Student (provide a copy of current student ID): $10 for 1 year. Students with financial hardship may email Student Programs to request a free introductory membership.

International: one year: $60; two years: $110; three years: $150

Mexico: one year: $25; two years: $50; three years: $75

Introductory rate for Colorado Field Ornithologists members: $20 for the first year of WFO membership (including a subscription to Western Birds.)

Gift Membership: $20 for one year.
A WFO membership makes a wonderful gift. If you are a WFO member, we gladly process Gift Memberships for others. Each recipient is encouraged to renew their own membership. Consequently, we allow just one gift from a member to the same individual. $20 is a promotional rate.

Life for individual or family: $800 payable now or in two equal annual installments.

Dues and contributions are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law.
