Last November Ron Mallory, a longtime supporter of WFO and a Patron, offered a match challenge to WFO. He wished the funds to go to our Publications Fund. The time frame went from November 30, 2021, to May 15, 2022. I am pleased to announce that we received contributions from 113 donors totaling $30,900. Many thanks to all for contributing and many thanks to Ron for all of his support to WFO. Ron will join us at our conference in Reno in September. A profile of Ron appeared in the Spring 2020 eNews.
Publications have always been the heart and soul of WFO. In addition to Western Birds, ably edited by Alan M. Craig and Philip Unitt for more than 50 years, we have published five special publications and monographs. We anticipate publishing Birds of Inyo County, by Tom and Jo Heindel, later this year or early in 2023. Several other special publications are being actively considered for the future. Robert E. Gill Jr. is our editor for Special Publications and Monographs. If you have an idea for such a publication, please share it with Bob. We try to maintain a healthy Publications Fund so that we can always encourage these works as well as fully support Western Birds. Printing and other costs are always on the increase, particularly in the last few years.
