Since September, Maci MacPherson and I have been working together to transition our member and donor process from spreadsheets to a database system, allowing WFO to improve the member experience as well as improve the reporting to the Board. While there are many details to manage, we have enjoyed learning more about our membership. WFO’s membership is wide-ranging, from individual, student, and family memberships to libraries and institutions around the world. You probably did not know that WFO has members in 28 states and 15 countries!
We thank you for your patience as we transition to the new member software, Aplos. You might see emails coming from Aplos; these are from WFO. Here are some of the changes you’ll notice.
- Going forward, only members with expiring memberships will receive direct emails to renew their memberships.
- Renewing members will receive a confirmation categorized as a donation.
- Donors will receive automatic recognition of their donations; please save these for your tax records.
We recognize that you may prefer sending checks for your renewal rather than renewing online, and you can still do this. However, you are saving WFO money with your direct credit card renewal. Thank you to those who have paid the credit card fees too!
Our goal is to provide better membership support, so your suggestions and ideas are welcome. Please email me at treasurer@westernfieldornithologists.org.
Enjoy your winter birding!

Hi Barbara–I forwarded your query to Maci. I just received an email from her saying that she sent you info on the Costa Rica trip. I believe that spaces are still available.–Judith
