At WFO, our members form a diverse and passionate community united by a shared love for birds and their habitats. While most of our members reside in western North America, WFO’s reach extends far beyond the region, with members from three continents and nine countries.
Our membership also includes over 50 institutions, such as libraries, universities, and museums. Among them are some of the most prestigious natural history museums in the world:
- American Museum of Natural History (New York City, USA)
- Field Museum of Natural History (Chicago, USA)
- San Diego Natural History Museum (San Diego, USA)
- Naturhistorisches Museum Wien (Vienna, Austria)
- Natural History Museum (London, UK)
- Canadian Museum of Nature (Ottawa, Canada)
These institutions, along with individual members, play a vital role in advancing WFO’s mission: to promote the study, appreciation, and conservation of birds across western North America.

Membership Rate Updates for 2025
To continue offering these valuable benefits and resources, the WFO Board has approved a modest adjustment to membership rates, effective March 1, 2025. This update reflects rising production costs and ensures we can sustain and grow the programs our members value.
For details on the new rates, visit the Become a Member page on the WFO website.
We deeply appreciate your support as a member of the WFO community. Together, we’re not only studying birds but also inspiring conservation and fostering global connections. Thank you for being part of this remarkable network.
